Review – Hi-Fi Rush

I wish Korsica would put /me/ in a choke hold like that. I mean what. Ahem.

Every once in a while you get where you play it and think to yourself – “They had one idea, one very good idea and then iterated and polished it until it was perfectly executed.” Hi-Fi Rush is one of those games. Developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks, this one truly did just come out of nowhere. As far as I know there wasn’t even a teaser trailer before the game just like…appeared on store fronts everywhere.

Review – Andor S1

Just me or that symbol on the top look a lot like the Quake logo?

Before I go any further with this: I will talk about stuff in the first season of Andor that is considered a spoiler for someone who has not watched it. I will put the rest of this review after the “Read More” fold so if you land on my blog you do not have to scroll past potential spoilers. Spoilers ahead, you have been warned.

Review – The Witcher: Blood Origin

I have been a fan of the world of the The Witcher ever since played The Witcher 3 back in 2016. I liked that game so much I put it on my list of my video games of the decade for 2009-2019.

So I don’t think it comes as a surprise that I am also a fan of The Witcher TV show. So when I found out about the little side story of Blood Origin I was immediately interested. My interest in it was doubled when I found out Michelle Yeoh of Star Trek: Discovery and Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) fame was going to be playing a character in it.

Blood Origin was….fine. I don’t it was particularly mind-blowing nor was it bad. I liked the casting and the performances were all good. I liked it mostly for the fact that it fills in some backstory to the world of The Witcher. Sure I knew of the Conjunction of the Spheres but I did not know all the little events and characters that led up to it.

Blood Origin also did not outstay its welcome. It was only 4 episodes, a mini-series more than a full blown TV show. I like that. It was a nice little snack for those of us who like The Witcher franchise. I would like to see more stuff like this set in the same universe.

Also put Michelle Yeoh in more stuff and I’ll probably give it a shot even if its something I wouldn’t normally be interested in, just saying.

Review: Tana Talk 4 by Benny the Butcher

This is a republishing of a post I wrote for my now defunct music newsletter. Substack sucks so the post is here now.

Each of the Griselda crew has their particular style. Conway the Machine’s slower introspective verses always pack a punch. Westside Gunn’s adlibs add much needed levity to any track he is on. Benny the Butcher brings the grime.

I don’t mean the UK hiphop sub-genre but the dirt you would find on well worn city streets. Every Benny verse drips with a grit that only feels authentic but also has the confidence of someone who truly understands the subject matter they are rapping about.

Hip-hop verses are often filled with braggadocio which in the hands of the best rappers in the game don’t feel like kayfabe but instead the real lived experiences of the rapper turned into words.

Benny is without a doubt one of the best rappers in the game and in Tana Talk 4, the Butcher delivers album filled with one gritty song after another.

Let’s dive into the album some by breaking down some individual tracks.
