The Live Hip-Hop Album

This is a republishing of a post I wrote for my now defunct music newsletter. Substack sucks so the post is here now.

Recently I was talking about the concept of the live hip-hop album on Mastodon and since that thread was followers-only I want to elaborate here on what favourites are in that specific genre. Living Large with Larry June

This is a republishing of a post I wrote for my now defunct music newsletter. Substack sucks so the post is here now.

Hip-hop has always had the element of flashing one’s material success. Gold chains, expensive cars, stacks of cash etc. Larry June with his latest album The Great Escape demonstrates a less flashy but still extravagant kind of lifestyle rap. Larry is more about buying property and diversifying your investments.

I have been lowkey obsessed with this album since it came out and its been on repeat.

Media Diet – April 2023

April was heavy on TV shows. I started off the month with a watch of Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Later in the month I also watched the first season of The Legend of Vox Machina and the first season of Reacher. This upcoming month I am planning on watching the second season of The Legend of Vox Machina.

I also finished Resident Evil 4 Remake, the first Resident Evil game that I’ve played and I enjoyed it greatly. This upcoming month I plan on playing the Resident Evil 2 remake and if I make quick work of that, the remake for 3 as well.

As far as music go, this month was dominated by the luxury lifestyle raps of Larry June and his latest album The Greatest Escape. Larry isn’t the most interesting or technically proficient rapper but he has a particular niche cornered and he is very good at that.

In May I also want to do a bit more reading of books, there are a couple books sitting in my queue collecting dust (metaphorically speaking, they are ebooks).

See y’all next month!
