The (primarily) North American tradition of Thanksgiving is not something I celebrate. However as both Canadian and American Thanksgiving days pass us by, thoughts of gratitude sprung to mine. Especially this year, I have a lot to be grateful for so I wanted to write this blog post to share that gratitude with the world.
First and foremost, I am grateful for my generally good health both mental and physical. The autumn of 2024 was a turbulent time for me for various reasons but I came out of it a better person overall and I continue to improve. I am focused on taking care of both physical and mental health and I am grateful for the good outcomes I am seeing as a result of that.
I am grateful for all my lovely friends and family who have always supported me and especially this year when I needed it most I found that my family and friends were the bulwark I could lean on a bit in times of crisis. This is certainly not something I take for granted and I am extremely grateful to have a good support network around me. Everybody deserves one of those.
Speaking of friends, I am grateful for the Queer Computer Club which has been and will continue to be a space that brings me great joy. If you are in Toronto and are even a little bit into computers and/or even a little bit queer: QCC is a place you should check out. We do open houses every month.
I am also grateful for the fediverse which I have been a member of since 2017 and which continues to be one of the best things that I have been part of. I love all y’all crazy weirdos (complimentary) and I am very grateful for all of y’all and that I am able to be in that space and just exist but also to be able to lean on the fediverse as part of my extended support network.
Last but definitely not least, I am grateful for the KEXP radio station for being a constant source of musical companionship throughout the year and for providing me with a pleasant distraction when I was feeling like shit. I love all the KEXP DJs and I am grateful to them for broadening my musical horizons and for putting me on to so much good music and for generally being awesome humans. Y’all rock.
