My media diet this month was a lot like the month itself. Slow. It was a very book focused month along with a smattering of video essays, music, one movie, some sports (!!), and no video games.
As far as reading goes, I started off the month with The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young, and then I read a book I picked up from an independent book store – Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-Reum. Then I read a short and sweet urban fantasy by the name of When Among Crows written by Veronica Roth. Closing out the month with non-fiction, Eichmann in Jerusalem by Hannah Arendt.
I watched, one movie, The Fugitive (1993). It didn’t make me feel anything other than a slight boredom so there’s no review of it.
I made up my lack of movie watching with a three and a half hour video essay about the Kendrick vs Drake beef. This is a FD Signifier video essay and it is really really quite good. I strongly recommend it.
Music wise, its been Charli xcx all month. I was initially not so hot on the album but after a second listen I am hooked on it. Definitely a album of the year. Happy Brat Summer y’all!
No new video games this month, I just haven’t had any video game particularly capture my interest this month. So I’ve been jumping around games I’ve played before, started a new run of Baldur’s Gate 3, started a new No Man’s Sky save after their recent huge update. I don’t know how much I’ll play these games this next month.
I watched some sports this month which was the biggest surprise. This was caused by the scandal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, what people are calling Drone Gate but what I’m calling The Drone Affair because that sounds cooler. I have watched some more women’s soccer matches at the Olympics and I am fully invested in Team Canada’s success. They made it to the quarterfinals after suffering a 6 point deduction given to them by FIFA! Go Team Canada!
I am also casually interested in women’s soccer so I’ve watched some NWSL matches. I don’t know how long this interest will remain but I’m enjoying it for now.
That’s all from me this time. See y’all next time!
