March was mostly the month of the non-fiction book sprinkled along with a bit of video game and a TV show.
As far as books go, we started off the month with Translation State by Ann Leckie, the first book this year I did not enjoy. After that I switched tracks to the non-fiction titles I had borrowed from the library, starting with Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, then Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall, The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon, and ending the month with Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber.
The video game of the month was Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden which is a game I liked well enough to finish it but it is not one that will be going on my GOTY list this year.
Movies continue to be a difficult thing. I only watched the one movie this month and I did not like it enough to consider reviewing it. I found it overly long and honestly quite boring. The movie was Heat (1995).
I did watch one new TV show this month: Blue Eye Samurai. I have two episodes left as I write this and I intend to finish it tonight. I am really enjoying the show, its a treat both visually and from a narrative perspective. The voice actor (Maya Erskine) for the main character Mizu does a fantastic performance. This show originally caught my eye when I saw a piece on it on Aftermath.
Music wise, I’ve been listening to the following albums this month:
- Madres by Sofia Kourtesis
- WE DON’T TRUST YOU by Future and Metro Boomin
- Three by Four Tet
- My Soft Machine by Arlo Parks
I continue to discover new music through the radio station KEXP. Didn’t think I would end up using radio to discover music in the year 2024 but here we are. I’m having a good time. I have a Spotify playlist with new songs I like that were discovered through KEXP for any of y’all interested in that kinda thing.
That’s all from me this time, see y’all next time!
