Media Diet – April 2023

April was heavy on TV shows. I started off the month with a watch of Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Later in the month I also watched the first season of The Legend of Vox Machina and the first season of Reacher. This upcoming month I am planning on watching the second season of The Legend of Vox Machina.

I also finished Resident Evil 4 Remake, the first Resident Evil game that I’ve played and I enjoyed it greatly. This upcoming month I plan on playing the Resident Evil 2 remake and if I make quick work of that, the remake for 3 as well.

As far as music go, this month was dominated by the luxury lifestyle raps of Larry June and his latest album The Greatest Escape. Larry isn’t the most interesting or technically proficient rapper but he has a particular niche cornered and he is very good at that.

In May I also want to do a bit more reading of books, there are a couple books sitting in my queue collecting dust (metaphorically speaking, they are ebooks).

See y’all next month!

Media Diet – March 2023

The month of March was a good one as far as media goes.

I watched the third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks which continues to be just a good and fun time. The best Star Trek out right now and its not even a debate for me.

I played all the way through Elden Ring. I used a mod to make the game much easier for me which allowed me to experience all the cool shit the game has to offer. At some point I want to write a review of the game but I am still processing the game in my head. There is just…a lot there.

I also got into Fortnite after watching Holiwhirl‘s sponsored streams of the game. No build mode makes the game a lot more enjoyable for me and I am enjoying the very silly nature of everything in the game. It’s a nice change of pace from the more “serious” shooters.

I finally got around to reading Aubrey Gordon’s latest book “You Just Need to Lose Weight” And 19 Other Myths About Fat People. I picked this up back in January but only started reading it this month. An important read that gave me much to reflect on.

I watched a movie in an actual movie theatre! It has been years and years since I’ve done that. I am a big fan of the John Wick movies so John Wick: Chapter 4 coming out this month meant I went to an actual movie theatre, bought some popcorn and watched a movie with a bunch of other people. It was a good movie, I really enjoyed it!

Lastly, I started playing the remake of Resident Evil 4. I am still making my way through it and I am happy to say I am enjoying it. It is my first Resident Evil game! Looking forward to finishing it!

That’s all from me this month, see y’all next month!

Media Diet – February 2023

A month without much media diversity as I’d like. No movie, no TV shows. I didn’t continue with Supernatural or Kakumei.

I did play two new video games – Hi-Fi Rush and Season both of which I enjoyed. I also finished up the Blood and Wine DLC of The Witcher 3 which means my second playthrough of The Witcher 3 is now completed. I am still process what I thought of it and I hope to write a post about that Soon ™.

Speaking of new games, I bought and played Returnal for an hour and a half before I returned it. Just wasn’t really feeling it mechanically which is important to me when it comes to rogue lites. Disappointing because I was looking forward to playing it for years.

I also bought and started the Metroid: Prime remaster. I am not sure if I will continue and finish the game or leave it unfinished. Some parts of the game are really not meshing well with how I play games. If I do finish it, it will be in March and there should be a review up for it as well.

As far as music goes, I have been listening to a lot of the new Skrillex album Quest for Fire. It is quite excellent. I also like the new Kelela and Don Toliver albums, both of which are good for a certain kind of vibe.

I have also been listening to KEXP’s new podcast called 50 Years of Hip-Hop. It is a great listen if you are a hip-hop head like me. I am learning bits of hip-hop history I never new. Highly recommend it.

That is all from me this month, see y’all later.
