The void is my friend.
On the fateful afternoon of April 8, 2017, yours truly was bored and decided he wanted to set up this hot new social networking software called Mastodon. Little did he know how this bit of idle curiosity would affect his life months later.
This is the story from then to now in pieces, as much as I can recall. I don’t remember every detail but what remains is enough.
Let’s begin.
Recently I read a blog post by André Staltz titled “The Web began dying in 2014, here’s how“. The post talks about how the siloization (I think I just made up that word) of internet traffic around the three tech giants: Google, Facebook, and Amazon.
Today I set out to figure out how to get outbound IPv6 connectivity working with the Docker setup for Mastodon.
Writing posts like these never get easier. I went for a long walk to get my thoughts in order but they are still a mess so forgive me if my sentences seem the same.
This morning I found out that a friend, Natalie Nguyen (@tipsytentacle) had passed away due to suicide.
Natalie and I did not know each other very well but the one thing I did know about her is that she loved to play a game called OpenTTD.
Therefore, in her name I have made a small donation to the OpenTTD project. I hope the game brings others joy like it did Natalie.
Gone but not forgotten.
Rest in peace Natalie.
